This week, we're down to the final stretch of the postproduction process of the feature film, Javier Ortega, Sound Designer and Postproduction engineer, is with us once again, to help us improve all aspects of the soundtrack, it's a true luxury to have this incredible sound postproduction professional with us.  Meanwhile, we're working on the film design (poster, dvd artwork...) and the subtitles, a not-so-easy task.

We've finished shooting all of the short films from the "Introduction to Filmmaking" program, the last one up is Rabih's, his short film "Love and Mustaches", is a love story where a young photographer makes a voyaje through the fantasy he wishes to capture with his camera, to the challenge of real life, with no camera to hide behind.

This year we have more workshops than ever before, so no one misses out on anything.

Directing the actor for film with James Duff: a three day intensive practical and theoretical course, where directors have the opportunity to rehearse scenes with actors guided by James.

James Duff: a graduate of the University of Southern California School cinemática Arts, with an MFA in Directing, James is a Prague Film School Directing and former Stone Street Studios/NYU Tisch drama instructor. James’s extensive Los Angeles and New York Theatre directing experience compliments his considerable film.

Finalizando "Checkout"

Emocionados!!!

Excited!!!  That's what we are, we are almost finished cutting the feature film "Checkout", the final cut is close at hand, and it's looking better and better.  It's a tough process, but a very satisfactory one, to watch the film take shape, and that which we had imagined, now right there before our very eyes!!!  We'll take the opportunity to show you the making of, a small preview of what you will soon be able to see!!

Students of the "Introduction to Filmmaking" program are still shooting, this week it is Désirée's turn, she's shot a short film set in the XVIII century, a persecution between two rivals and the conquest of a land inhabited by natives.  We'll leave you with a few photos, of this truly spectacular project.
And we're preparing more courses and workshops for the summer, this time we'll focus on those dedicated to actors:
Casting Workshop (led by Amy Blaise)- an intensive, 3 day workshop, both theoretical and practical, with improvisations, scene breakdowns, and the preparation of a monologue, aimed at helping the actor overcome this important part of the actor's process.
Actor's Lab (The Primal Elements Acting Lab) led by Amy Blaise- a 3 week workshop, which explores the craft of acting, different acting techniques are explored through innovative improvisation exercises and scene work.  Each actor will work on a monologue with the instructor that will be professionally recorded for their showreel.
Actor's Studio (led by Amy Blaise)- The afilm Actor's Studio is a working space, a hands-on rehearsal lab where actors can create in a real working environment, beneath the spotlights, in front of a camera, while participating in student film productions.

We've got a rough cut of the feature film "Checkout", we're very pleased with the work so far, though there are still details to polish, sound design to create, music to work on...  However, we're certain the film will surprise more than a few!

And at afilm, with the nice weather, we really feel like doing even more, which is why we're preparing summer workshops.  The first up is "A weekend with Alexa", a chance to explore Arri's new digital camera, Alexa.

Another workshop being offered is the "Camera Workshop", a four day workshop where students will work both theory and practice, using 16mm, Super 16mm and 35mm.

Our "Steadicam Workshop" is a three day course, where participants will learn hands-on the physical and esthetic requirements in operating a Steadicam.
In the one week “Short Film Shooting Camp – Directores vs. Directors of Photography”, students choose one of the two specializations- Directing participants will write, storyboard, direct and edit their own short film, while crewing for the other directors.  The Director of Photography participants will rotate camera department crew positions, as Director of Photography, Camera Operator, First Camera Assistant and Gaffer.

Cortos, Talleres y seguimos...

Last week, the 3 month Cinematography Master Workshop, which for the past 3 months participated in the Preproduction and the Production of the afilm feature film, drew to a close. During this time, they worked with the Red One, shot a 35mm commercial, tested the new Panasonic 3D camera, they visited Apuntolapospo, Service Vision, etc…  Aside from having gained terrific on-set experience, and having had the opportunity to work with a professional crew. From here, we wish them all the very best and hopefully our paths will cross on another shoot!

We're still shooting, we've just finished shooting two new projects, "Peculiar Mr.Earl”, a fantastic tale about a desperate man who makes a deal with a devil-like character to bring his wife back, and "Lola K", a story about an actress kidnapped by a group of adrenaline-addicted critics, who will only be able to survive if she holds on to her integrity.  Two films we are certain will impress.

And now that the summer is almost here, at afilm, we are preparing lots of  interesting workshops- to begin,  the "TERROR FEATURE FILM SCREENWRITING workshop", which will be held on 8 consecutive Saturdays.  The next one is MARK W TRAVIS' DIRECTING WORKSHOP- THE DIRECTOR'S JOURNEY, Mark came to visit us last year with a different workshop and we'd like to welcome him back, and offer everyone the chance to get to participate.

We're fully immersed in the editing process, we have a week tough weeks of postproduction ahead of us.  Soon we'll have a rough cut completed,  and from here, the film will slowly be sculpted, we'll craft the audio, the color grading, the rhythm, etc.  What an incredible sensation, to see how, little by little, what we've been working on for the past year, slowly comes to life.

Students of the Introduction to Filmmaking program are already shooting their final short films, and we can clearly see an evolution in their work, of the knowledge they have acquired.  Last week, Allan shot a very singular story, "What would happen, if someone let the monster inside, out? Would things change much?"  Soon you will see!!!
At afilm, it's very tough for us to keep still, that's why, in the middle of the postproduction process, of the preproduction of the short films, etc. we went on a field trip to a wonderful postproduction house, "Apuntolapospo", leader in its field,  where we color graded (non- linear digital color treatment) the 35mm ad we shot with students of the Cinematography Workshop. Bernat Aragones, who guided us on our tour, merits our thanks, for his time and input, as well as Apuntolapospo.
